Apex Middle

May 17: Seventh- and eighth-grade advance orchestra, chorus and eighth-grade band to Busch Gardens.

May 20-23: EOG testing.

May 23: Sixth-grade international passport day.

Cary Academy

Students, faculty and staff participated in Relay for Life held April 26 at Panther Creek High School.

Cedar Fork Elementary

The fourth- and fifth-grade chorus will perform their spring concert on May 8 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. A brief PTA meeting will occur before the concert.

May 9: Field Day. Kindergarten-second grades will participate from 9:30-11 a.m. and grades 3-5 will participate from 1:30-3 p.m.

• The following teachers will be honored at the Cary Chamber of Commerce Honor a Teacher Reception on May 12 at 5:30 p.m. at Regency Park: Shannon McGowan, Patricia Krautheimer, June Haggy, Lori Desloge and Raffaella Mollica. Congratulations.

East Cary Middle

EOG testing for track 1 will take place May 13-16. Training for EOG proctors starts at 7:15 the day of testing.

May 14: Technology club meeting.

Farmington Woods Elementary

May 7: IB information session, 9 a.m. Kindergarten information session, 9:45 a.m. Fifth-grade spring concert, 5 p.m.

May 9: Volunteer tea.

May 15-17: Farmington Woods and Barnes & Noble host a book fair sponsored by the PTA. May 20-22: EOG testing.

Kingswood Elementary

May 13: PTA meeting and music program, 7 p.m. in the school gym.

May 19: Kingswood students and parents are invited to meet for dinner at Beef O’Brady’s in Cary. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the school.

Lufkin Road Middle

Lufkin Road Middle School has received a $2,500 grant for a program called Lufkin Less Paper, which promotes the use of less paper as students write research papers, essays and other papers. The program will employ Blackboard technology. The grant was written by Lufkin teacher Kelly Anderson and administrator Dr. Camille Hedrick.

• On April 18, Lufkin participated in First in Fitness, a track-and-field event for all sixth-graders in Wake county. Lufkin had several students who placed: Stewart MaGahey (sixth place boys’ pull-ups), Riley Nociti (third place girls’ mile), Elijah Agu sixth place for the boys’ Triathlon: pull-ups, mile run and shuttle run), Mason Boone (sixth place boys’ long jump), Victoria Hallacy (fifth place girls’ long jump). Congratulations also goes out to these participants who represented Lufkin: Zack Kennedy, Jeffrey Kennedy, Jared Hopson, Jeremy Keyes, Greg Clifton, Zack Lancaster, John Ruiz, Garrett Parker, Logan Lineberry, Sam Litt, Kali Woodlief, Jamika Bickems, Andrea-Lei Puliafico, Jocelyn Brunson, Audrey Sherk, Deven Dale, Aliyah Echols, Elizabeth Hunter.

Penny Road Elementary

May 20: PTA general membership meeting, 7 p.m. in the media center. We will briefly recap the year, recognize our volunteers, hear a word from our incoming president about plans for next year and have a demonstration of new interactive technology.

• Congratulations to the students who did not watch television during the week of National Turn Off TV Week from April 21-27.

The Raleigh School

May 8: Both fourth grades will visit Agape Nature Center in Fuquay-Varina where they will study plants native to North Carolina.

May 15: Malinda Taylor’s second-grade class will host their annual Author’s Tea. Each student will read aloud a story they have written to their audience of parents, teachers and peers. Refreshments will follow.

May 15-16: Both fifth-grade classes will take their year-end class trip to Washington, D.C. where they will visit the Smithsonian museums, National Archives, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and all the war memorials. They will take a tour of the White House and Supreme Court.

May 19: Both first-grade classes are hosting their annual Mother’s Day Tea.

Sterling Montessori

May 8: Latin American Night. Volunteers are needed to help with the refreshment table. Contact senordino@gmail.com in you are interested in helping.

May 15: PFA meeting, 6:30 p.m. in C-16. Childcare will be provided.

Turner Creek Elementary
