Athens Drive High
• The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club (FCCLA) participated in a statewide competition in Greensboro in April. Emily McEvoy won the state's highest award in a new event, Recycle and Redesign, by making a recycled, reversible purse out of cloth scraps and an old necklace for the handle. She will represent the state in the national competition in Orlando, Fla. in July. Sarah Levine and Stephanie Moss scored a perfect 100 in the entrepreneurship event by creating a business plan for a day spa. They will represent Athens in the nationals as well. Michelle Eklund won the bronze award in Fashion and Aurora Bravo, Jarin Tasnim and Margarita Gomez won silver for the Athens chapter service involvement.

Andrea-Leigh Green (’08) has been named one of approximately 560 semifinalists in the 2008 Presidential Scholars Program. The semifinalists were selected from more than 3,000 candidates. Two winners from each state, one male and one female, will be announced in May.
• At the 2008 Heritage Choral Festival competition on May 18-19, the Upper School choruses earned the best ratings and rankings they have ever earned at a festival/competition. In addition to the school winning the Sweepstakes Award, each individual chorus earned superior ratings and received invitations to participate in the 2009 Heritage Festival of Gold. Two students, Joe Johnston (’09) and Seth Johnson (’09), earned Maestro awards for the solos they performed.
• Damian Jiang (’10) placed 11th at the N.C. State High School Mathematics Contest held April 25.
• Sen. Marc Basnight has appointed Georgia Van de Zande (’11) to serve as a Senate page for the 2008 session of the general assembly.
