Marque Carrington was named the new Cardinal Gibbons boys' basketball coach. A 1996 Cary High alum, Carrington was the starting shooting guard on the Imps' 1995 state championship team.

Junior Cory Harrilchak guided the Elon baseball team to the Southern Conference regular-season and tournament championships and the NCAA tournament this spring. The Cary High grad had team highs in batting average (.410), slugging (.678), on base (.492) and runs scored (71).
