RALEIGH — Athens Drive improved to 2-0 with a 63-47 win against Enloe Friday.
Quarterback Nick DeMuro completed 9 of 20 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns. DeMuro also rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Phillip Barren had 121 receiving yards, 156 rushing yards and four touchdowns. All four of Barren’s touchdowns came on plays of 50 yards or more.
T.J. Kornegay caught six passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and he threw a 65-yard TD pass to Barren on the second play of the game.
Denardo Melendez scored on a 61-yard run, his only carry of the game. Antonio Allen caught a 28-yard TD pass. Placekicker David Enichen was 9 for 9 on PATs.
The two teams combined for more than 1,100 yards of total offense. Athens accounted for 655. Enloe rushed for 412 yards.
Athens Drive is off this week. The Jaguars next play at Sanderson on Sept. 7.
Apex 41, Broughton 14RALEIGH — Apex ran its record to 2-0 with 41-14 non-conference victory over Broughton, which fell to 0-2.
Apex junior running back Kevin Fogg scored on a punt return, a run and a pass reception in the first half as the Cougars built a 27-0 lead. Fogg, who ran for 150 yards last week in a 28-0 win over Holly Springs, finished with 136 rushing yards.
Cougar quarterback Houston Hawley threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Brandon Carr. Zach Johnson passed to Rob Fronk for the Cougars’ other score.
Apex plays host to Leesville Road (2-0) this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Sanderson 48, Panther Creek 7RALEIGH — Sanderson scored on a run, a pass, an interception return and a blocked punt return in its 48-7 non-conference victory over Panther Creek (0-2).
The Spartans (1-1) built a 34-0 lead before the Catamounts got on the board.
Panther Creek quarterback Gray Mazzone threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Stephen Womble for the Catamounts’ only score.
Mazzone completed 15 of 31 passes for 185 yards. Womble had five receptions for 50 yards, and Quade Wright had five catches for 73 yards.
Panther Creek plays its home opener this Friday against Broughton at 7:30 p.m.
Jordan 44, Green Hope 19DURHAM — Green Hope took an early 7-0 lead, but Jordan scored 30 straight points before the Falcons got another one and handed Green Hope a 44-19 loss.
Green Hope quarterback Max Drisko threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns, and tailback Patrick Thornton rushed for 81 yards.
Matt Barber and Drisko hooked up for a 19-yard TD pass and a 7-0 lead. But Jordan’s Jerrell Rhodes scored three straight touchdowns and Delson MacAdams had 59-yard interception return for a touchdown to blow the game open.
Drisko later through TD passes to Jake Trimble and Bryant Derbyshire.
Green Hope (0-2) plays Triton this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Wakefield 30, Holly Springs 7HOLLY SPRINGS — Wakefield held Holly Springs to 30 yards rushing and a single touchdown Friday.
Holly Springs turned to quarterback Ethan Nunn for the bulk of its offense.
Nunn completed 7 of 25 passes for 124 yards.
Holly Springs (0-2) is at Fuquay-Varina this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
