For the third time in four years, the Green Hope boys' soccer team's season came to a close in the same fashion — with a shutout loss in the East Regional final.

Broughton ended the Falcons' season 1-0 Tuesday in extra time. Forward Brandon Haynes scored the game's only goal in the 84th minute.

“Our kids, that’s the best game they played all year," said Green Hope coach Andrew Chadwick. "And we just could not compose ourselves to score.”

Green Hope (20-3-2) outshot the Capitals 23-20 but couldn't put one by Broughton goalkeeper Scott Goodwin, who had 10 saves. In the 74th minute, Green Hope's Magnus Sorensen hit the post on a 25-yard free kick. In the 94th minute, Goodwin turned away Kyle Bandy's shot from inside of 10 yards.

Goalkeeper Alex Long has 10 saves for the Falcons.

“Man, if we didn’t have enough chances," Chadwick said. "Both goalkeepers were phenomenal. That was a great game to watch. It was a great game. This is the way soccer should be played."
